About Dr. Narang

Dr. Indra Narang is a Paediatric Respirologist and Sleep Medicine specialist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto. She is a Senior Scientist in the Research Institute and a Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Narang is an internationally recognized leader and expert in paediatric sleep disorders. Additionally, she is a leader in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion space and an advocate for health equity.

As a leader in Sleep Medicine at SickKids, Dr. Narang has established the largest and most comprehensive paediatric sleep program in Canada with an integrated clinical, research, education and training platform. Currently, her research program is evaluating 1) the role of 3D photogrammetry, utilizing mathematical modelling and AI, for the diagnostic management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in a diverse population and 2) the use of novel therapies for the treatment of childhood OSA. Dr. Narang's research and leadership have transformed and promoted excellence in clinical care for children with underlying sleep disorders through innovative clinical and translational research and she has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers.

Dr. Narang is committed to training, mentoring, and promoting the next generation of health care providers, translational scientists, and leaders in sleep medicine and EDI in Canada and globally. She is an active supervisor for clinicians and researchers from the undergraduate level to postgraduate level. She has a Full appointment at Institute of Medical Science, School of Graduate Studies, University of Toronto through which she supervises Master's and PHD students.

Distinction and Awards

2024 - Clinician Practitioner Award. Paediatric Chairs of Canada.
This award recognizes excellence in leadership, primarily focused on the clinician whose clinical practice has served as an outstanding environment for the education of trainees and the advancement of practice through knowledge translation and dissemination, as well as leadership within the discipline.

2023 - AMSPDC Pediatric Leadership Development Program (PLDP) Award

The Association of Medical School Paediatric Department Chairs (AMSPDC) hosts an annual competition inviting nominees to be part of their prestigious leadership development program (PLDP). She was the only Canadian physician accepted into this program in 2023.

2020  - Subspecialty Teaching Award, Hospital for Sick Children.

This award recognizes educational excellence by a faculty member reflecting the special relationship that develops between a faculty teacher and trainees during the intense period of subspecialty training.

2017  - 2017 Female Professional of the Year Award, Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce, Canada.

This award recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of a female professional who has established a reputation for excellence in professional practice; has a proven track record of academic brilliance and has made significant contributions to the profession and the community.


Research Interests

Dr. Narang's clinical and research interests are related to sleep disorders in obese youth and in children with underlying medical complexity.
